Mélanie Thierry, Benoît Magimel, Benjamin Biolay, Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet
In 1944 Nazi-occupied France, young Marguerite (Mélanie Thierry) is a talented writer and an active Resistance member with her husband (Emmanuel Bourdieu). When he is deported by the Gestapo, she dives into a desperate struggle to get him back - developing a unusual relationship with the Vichy collaborating police inspector Rabier (Benoît Magimel) and taking terrible risks. Does he really want to help her? Or is he trying to dig up information about the underground rebels?
Adapted from Marguerite Duras' autobiographical novel 'La douleur', Memoir of War is a refined, deeply psychological look at grief, devotion and endurance.
"One of the best films I've seen about the ways in which grief can pull a person in both directions simultaneously." - RogerEbert.com
