1820, Northwest America. Skilled cook Otis Cookie Figowitz (John Magaro) has travelled west to join fur trappers in Oregon Territory, where he encounters King-Lu (Orion Lee), a Chinese immigrant who is also seeking his fortune. The two collaborate on a highly successful business - making and selling delicious baked goods to the locals, but it relies on them stealing milk from a wealthy landowner’s (Toby Jones) prized cow - the first, and only, in the land. Kelly Reichardt (Meek's Cutoff, Certain Women) once again trains her perceptive and patient eye on the Pacific Northwest, this time evoking an authentically hardscrabble early nineteenth century way of life.
