Dead Ringers

Dead Ringers stars Jeremy Irons in a dual role as brilliant twins who grow up to be brilliant gynaecologists. The twins are unusually close, routinely pretending to be each other. The movie is not at all shy about exploiting the possibility that a woman going to see one of these gynaecologists might end up being seen by the other. But that is only the beginning of their deception. Cronenberg’s detached style creates a film which is a stylistic tour de force, cold and creepy and centred on bleak despair.
