Lucas Hedges, Julia Roberts, Courtney B. Vance, Kathryn Newton, Rachel Bay Jones
19 year-old Ben Burns (Lucas Hedges) quite unexpectedly returns home to his family’s suburban home on Christmas Eve morning. His mother, Holly (Julia Roberts), is relieved and welcoming but wary of her son staying clean, in light of his painful history of lapses and relapses. Over a turbulent 24 hours, new dangerous truths are revealed, and a mother’s undying love for her son is profoundly tested as she does everything in her power to keep him safe.
Oscar-nominated writer/director Peter Hedges (What's Eating Gilbert Grape) directs his son Lucas in this tense drama.
"Roberts plays Ben's mother with sadness, desperation and inner steel. She is the primary reason to see this film." ★★★★ - The Times
