St Andrew's Fair Saturday at Filmhouse
20 November 2019
On Saturday 30th November Belmont Filmhouse will be taking part in St Andrew's Fair Saturday,...
Belmont Filmhouse is delighted to launch Senior Selections, a new project which offers audiences aged 60 and over the chance to enjoy both classic and contemporary cinema and share their thoughts over a cup of tea after the screening.
The films, which will be shown monthly, will be selected by a team of Senior Selections volunteers, giving everyone the opportunity to suggest films that they would like to see. Where possible, films are shown with on screen captions or subtitles, to ensure our screenings are as accessible as possible for audiences who are D/deaf & hard-of-hearing.
Volunteers will also be on hand to welcome new customers and make them feel at home.
Yvonne Gordon (Head of Education and Learning, CMI) said "We are excited to be launching Senior Selections at Belmont Filmhouse. We hope it will bring people together over their love of cinema and provide opportunities to get involved, make new friends and just have some fun.”
In launching this project, Belmont Filmhouse hope to offer senior citizens of Aberdeen a regular, affordable and sociable occasion to enjoy new films and old favourites and perhaps even make new friends among their fellow audience members. Tickets for these screenings cost £4 each and include tea, coffee and biscuits after the film. Senior Selections has been running successfully at Belmont’s sister cinema, Filmhouse in Edinburgh for over two years.
Senior Selections will be launching at Belmont Filmhouse in 2020. Screenings will be on the first Wednesday of the month. The first screening is on February 5th and the film will be the classic Cinema Paradiso.
Belmont Filmhouse is also looking for friendly, film loving volunteers ages 60+ to help out with the new Senior Selections screenings. Senior Selections volunteers will help design and deliver the programme. There will be opportunities to:
· help select the films for screening
· welcome the audience and introduce the films
· help out after the screenings with refreshments and chatting with the audience
If you are interested in becoming a Senior Selections volunteer at Belmont, please get in touch by contacting 01224 343 500 and asking to speak to the Duty Manager, or email education@belmontfilmhouse.com.
