St Andrew's Fair Saturday at Filmhouse
20 November 2019
On Saturday 30th November Belmont Filmhouse will be taking part in St Andrew's Fair Saturday,...
1) BELMONT MEMBERSHIP
Everyone has been denied their usual frequent fix of excellent independent cinema this year, so make sure 2021 gets off to a record-breaking start with a Belmont Filmhouse Membership! We might be a bit biased, but we do believe that this is one of the very best gifts you could possibly give. There’s the option to purchase an Annual Joint Membership too, if you’re looking to sort two presents at once. As soon as our cinema doors are open again, this present will keep on giving all year long!
2) THE MUBI SHOP
MUBI have recently opened an online Shop, exclusive to the UK for the moment. With a carefully curated selection of limited-edition picks, you should make your purchases quick before they disappear! We love their limited-edition Ema poster, as well as their very sleek desk calendar featuring Orson Welles’ The Lady from Shanghai. 2021 will hopefully give us more reasons to keep track of the time!
3) LITTLE SIDE TABLE - ALTERNATE FILM POSTERS
Although these delightful posters might not arrive in time for Christmas (shipping from the United States) we had to include them on the list. The typography varied and elegant, with statement colour pallets to drool over and illustrations to covet, Little Side Table’s online store is a hidden gem of alternative movie posters. Browse at your mercy – you might end up purchasing them all! You can also follow their work on Instagram.
4) LITTLE WHITE LIES SUBSCRIPTION
We must give credit to the Little White Lies team for inspiring our Christmas Gifts article – they’ve been doing it for years! Alongside their consistently excellent, cutting-edge film reviews and features, they print five physical magazines each year. Their annual subscription, at only £27, is a fantastic way to support a leading voice in independent cinema, print culture generally and the journalists, editors and illustrators who put it all together. Alternatively, just buy the one issue in shops currently! With each issue featuring around a different indie flick, we whole-heartedly back this Christmas gift idea.
5) ACCIDENTALLY WES ANDERSON SHOP
Inspired by the startling feast of visual designs in Wes Anderson’s cinema, Accidentally Wes Anderson was first created as a personal travel bucket list and has evolved into a mass archive of worldwide spots resembling the filmmaker’s work. Their online shop covers everything from art prints to apparel to small collectible items, such as postcards, stickers and pens, as well as their book, which contains a foreword written by Wes Anderson himself. The collection is an ode to the adventurous spirit evident in his films and the great wanderlust you experience after watching. A real goldmine of present ideas, with varying budgets in mind!
6) EAT WHAT YOU WATCH - COOKBOOK
We recommended the podcast on Belmont Recommends – Binging with Babish - earlier in the year, but now there’s a physical book version, allowing you to turn movie feasts into real dinner delights! Andrew Rea takes iconic movie film scenes as inspiration and has created actual recipes, with everything from Spaghetti Mealballs inspired by Goodfellas and Pastrami Sandwiches in When Harry Met Sally to the perfect slice of pizza inspired by Saturday Night Fever. Take your cinema habits from the sofa to the kitchen this Christmas with this foodie-loving gift!
7) GIRLS ON TOPS TEES
We love Girls on Tops. Simple, chic and to the point, their (mostly) black and white tops carry the names of the rock star women of the film industry. With proceeds going towards funding female-led film projects and commissioning female-led film writing, your purchase comes with a sure investment into ensuring there are even more rock star women in the film industry of the future. Names include Greta Gerwig, Celine Sciamma, Claire Denis, Lulu Wang, Ava Duvernay, and have been worn by the likes of Rooney Mara, Timothée Chalamet and Greta Gerwig herself!
8) THE LIGHTHOUSE GROOMING SET
American film distributor A24 have an often strange, but exciting selection in their online shop, stemming from their hefty film profile. It’s their The Lighthouse merch that caught our eye though. Perhaps too sophisticated for the two Thomas’ themselves (played by Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe), their ‘grooming’ set is marketed towards lusty seamen (and women, thank you). The mermaid shaped soap looks like it could conjure mysterious sea creatures from the deepest depths – and in 2020, a bar of soap is always going to come in handy!
