St Andrew's Fair Saturday at Filmhouse
20 November 2019
On Saturday 30th November Belmont Filmhouse will be taking part in St Andrew's Fair Saturday,...
As we head into November we are delivering a packed brochure, brimming and beaming with over 70 films (!), which will see us past Christmas and the New Year. There’s a present for everyone. Yes, there will be A Wonderful Life on Xmas Eve and yes there’s the now annual Hollywood mega-blockbuster in the form of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but there’s so much more! There might also be an extra surprise for our Members, who deserve it. We wish a Merry Xmas to all of you. Thank you for your continuing support and keep an eye on your inboxes... The goodies we have on offer could easily fill an advent calendar, so you may as well start opening them!
You could easily start with the bigger boxes, the ones with the brightest ribbons. Suburbicon sees Clooney, Damon and the Coens shuffle the pack, as George takes the director’s chair, while Battle of the Sexes has Emma Stone produce the performance of her career (according to the critics) as Billie Jean King opposite one Christmas Carell. Or you could search between them and find those smaller offerings, which are nonetheless beautifully decorated and maybe slightly more intricate. Genius Michael Haneke returns with his first film since Amour in Happy End, a French family drama set against the backdrop of the Calais refugee camp; while The Lobster’s Yorgos Lanthimos presents The Killing of a Sacred Deer, which at a glance looks even more barmy than the aforementioned.
But don’t ignore that strange shaped present, badly wrapped, which represents the best intentions of whoever put it together. The Disaster Artist sees James Franco play Tommy Wiseau, the auteur behind The Room – which incidentally we’re also showing for the first time in a few years. Get your spoons!
In fact there are so many films that we had to create a whole new screen! Kino Bar is a new space at Belmont Filmhouse, hiding in the basement. It’s not exactly a cinema and it’s not exactly a bar, but it will be an experience and we’re very excited about it! Grab a drink, slouch in a sofa and enjoy a few films hand-picked by Belmont staff.
Have a look at what's on to book a screening or event.
