Viceroy's House in Delhi was the home of the British rulers of India. In 1947, after 300 years, that rule was coming to an end. Lord Mountbatten (Hugh Bonneville) became the last Viceroy, charged with handing India back to its people. As negotiations wore on, conflict erupted...
Gurinder Chadha's film examines these events through the prism of the Mountbattens and a romance between young Hindu Jeet (Manish Dayal) and his Muslim bride-to-be Aalia (Huma Qureshi). The young lovers find themselves caught up in the end of Empire, in conflict with the Mountbattens and with their own communities, but never ever giving up hope.
The screenings of Viceroy's House on Sat 11 Mar at 13:30 & Sun 12 Mar at 20:35 will have onscreen captions for customers who are deaf or hard of hearing.
