At the end of World War II, German POWs were made to clear vast minefields on the Danish coastline - mines laid down to prevent the Allies from reclaiming Denmark from occupation. Tough, uncompromising Danish Sergeant Rasmussen (Roland Møller) is put in charge of a group of young German soldiers who must clear each one by hand. With truly gripping sequences, Martin Zandvliet's Oscar® nominated drama charts the complicated relationship between these naíve boys, the unforgiving locals and their Sergeant - who promises that, when the beach is clear, they can go home to their families.
