Dallas's Introduction (June - August 2016)
Mon 13 Jun 2016
We start the brochure by raising a glass to toast another successful Edinburgh International Film Festival and celebrate with a very special screening of the Closing Gala film Whisky Galore! on Sun 26 Jun. Filmed locally up in Portsoy, this dram-atic remake of the beloved Scottish story is a guaranteed barrel of laughs that will leave audiences drunk on life.
When it comes to Scottish classics, “there can be only one” and Highlander celebrates its 30th anniversary with a return to the big screen.
This Summer we will be also be celebrating the work of two authors as we go from page to screen. First we have an Adapting Miss Highsmith season taking place over July and August that charts the film adaptations of Patricia Highsmith all the way from Strangers On A Train to Carol. Then for kids of all ages, a phizz-winging, gloriumptious Roald Dahl season, with screenings of all his classic stories. A BIG part of that will be Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of The B.F.G. screening from Friday 22 July.
Fresh from causing controversy at Cannes, Nicholas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon takes a turn on the Belmont catwalk. We go from demon to Damon as Matt’s superspy is bourne again in Jason Bourne; plus fresh from the EIFF, Julianne Moore and Ethan Hawke star in Maggie’s Plan and are paid a visit from a couple of Nice Guys in Shane Black's buddy P.I. comedy.
It’s Summer and the kids might be on holiday but our Young Programmers have been hard at work putting together a Moving Movies festival celebrating the art of dance and choreography on the big screen, including a couple of short films made by local talent - don't miss it!
