Dallas's Introduction (May-June 2016)
Fri 29 Apr 2016
Over the last ten years the industry has seen a huge increase in the range and number of ‘event cinema’ screenings happening each year, allowing audiences all around the world to experience events that they would not otherwise get the opportunity to see.
You can attend a music concert, explore a museum or watch a piece of theatre such as the incredibly popular NT Live series, which continues with an encore of The Audience to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday.
It also allows us to take part in filmmaker Q&As via satellite and we have two very exciting ones in this brochure. On Fri 27 May, Kenneth Branagh will be in conversation prior to a screening of Henry V and in early June we will have Michael Moore joining us live via satellite from Sheffield Doc/Fest with his new film Where to Invade Next.
Of course, nothing beats the real thing - and we are happy to welcome some fantastic guests north of the central belt so you can put your questions to them in person. On Mon 16 May, cycling hero Graeme Obree will be talking about his new film Battle Mountain: Graeme Obree’s Story, plus we’ve got filmmaker Q&As after Colours of the Alphabet on Sun 29 May and Hamish on Thu 2 Jun.
It’s a busy month with all this going on but we have still had time to ensure a fantastic line up of films to watch as we count down the days to the historic 70th edition of the Edinburgh International Film Festival (15-26 Jun). Some highlights include Patrick Stewart playing a villainous Neo-Nazi in the gritty thriller Green Room, Terrence Malick’s Knight Of Cups, the fantastical Tale of Tales and anyone who recently enjoyed The Night Manager on TV will want to check out Our Kind Of Traitor which is also based on a John Le Carré novel.
